These catalogs have come to be known as the ‘Christmas Books’ around our house. At this point they are very worn and nearly every toy except ‘toys for Lola’ are marked. Fritz has been carrying these things under his arm wheedling a pen for over a week now. About five times a day he proclaims ‘Let’s do the Christmas books’. What this involves is sitting at the dining room table, or living room floor, and going through each page of the FOUR catalogs and him telling me ,or marking, what he wants or NEEDS for Christmas. The funny thing about it is they were free and they are the thing that is keeping him most busy right now. He does not get sick of this activity.
This all started two weeks back when he caught me perusing the Back To Basics Toys Catalog, which BTW has amazing things. He started pointing at the things he wanted and I told him that he would probably get a few things for Christmas. When he wouldn’t let up pointing at everything and telling me he wanted it I told him to get a pen and put a little mark next to the things he wanted. The next day I happened upon the catalog and had forgotten that I had given him the little task of marking gifts for Christmas. So when I opened up the catalog I saw a scattering of little marks next to toys that were quintessentially Fritz. He was sparing with his marks, only choosing things that really suited his tastes. Construction sets. tractors, fire trucks and race tracks were marked. I thought that was very reserved of him not to go buck wild and mark a million things. The funny thing too was, the things he marked were exactly the things I was thinking of getting him. We’re so on the same wavelength.
Since that day Target and Wallmart ‘Christmas Books’ were added to the media mix. The ‘Christmas Books’ are looked at in the morning over breakfast and brought into bed at night…with a pen. And when we sit down to look at them together he makes sure I have a pen too. What’s amazing is after looking at these things at least a hundred times he’s turning pages and the excitement is still at a level 9/10. And yesterday when the Barney’s look book came in the mail I took it over to BD, turned to the page with the pink faced Rolex and said ‘I need that for Christmas’ and put a little mark next to it.

Who’s a better interview, this kid or Fritz? If you didn’t see it on the news last night…this little girl’s Dad caught a foul ball at a Phillies game, handed it to her, and she proceeded to throw it back. Good one little girl. Now she’s getting her 15 minutes. Pretty cute. [via TMZ]

So now that I’m a SAHM I’m trying to do lots of little things to spiff up the ol’ abode. This past weekend I cleaned the upstairs hall closet that was jammed with gross old towels, expired cough syrup and crusty makeup. The closet is pretty small but I got rid of two giant black garbage bags full of stuff. I turned three bins of makeup into one very small makeup bag. It felt ah-mazing. Today I bought this new summer quilt for our bed. It made the whole room come alive. I got the quilt at Anthropologie and I can’t wait to go snuggle underneath it tonight. A few other home improvements on my list: Go through all of Fritz’s toys and keep or discard, Do an overhaul of my own closet and put anything I won’t be wearing for the next year, or two, or ever, in storage, or giveaway, Organize Fritz’s room, Start an inspiration book & researching for remodeling the Kitchen and bathroom.
Side Note: I was recently asked by a reader to do a Cribs style tour of my house. In the works, hang tight.
