Faux Pregnancy Chic

faux-pregnancy

Apparently there are girls out there that read The Hipster Mom who are not yet mothers themselves. And I don’t think they’re necessarily trying to become pregnant anytime soon, they’re just feeling the good vibes radiating from this blog. Take this reader for example. Her BFF writes in:

Dear Hipster Mom,

This is my best friend. She loves you so much she walks around our flat pretending to be pregnant.

-Little Critter

Well thanks ladies! I’m flattered. I think what makes this blog appealing to all women (and even some dudes) is that being a mom can be fun and funny. I get quite a few readers that aren’t moms yet and enjoy reading the antics of a hipster mom. Contrary to what some women think you can be hip and be a mom! Why the fuck not. So I think girls that are where I was five or six years ago see hope for their future in parenting. No need to leave your old life behind…we can have it all!

Yes you can have it all. I hate the preconceived notion that as soon you get pregnant you’re supposed to be frumpy and only enjoy nick jr. DAMN THE STEREOTYPES!!!

I am also not a mother and to be honest not sure whether or not that will be in the cards for me. Although, I am just 20 years old and uncertain about a lot of things. Point is, I have been an avid reader of this blog for quite some time now. By avid I mean, checking it more then once daily for updates! I love it so much; the stories, pictures, laughs etc. Each are a part of what keeps me passing the url around to anyone interested.

Also- My 3 room mates and I anxiously awaited the birth of baby Lola for months, congratulations she’s beautiful.

I don’t know… does anyone else find it odd that she walks around with a fake belly? Not because she wants to be pregs but because ’she loves you so much’?

I’m not knockin, please… whatever toots your own horn. But it’s just odd to me.

I’m 28, not pregnant, but hoping to be so -soon. Reading your blog gives me hope that being pregnant doesn’t mean turning into a f*cking Laura Ashley floral beast. You help me believe that being a mom doesn’t mean having to be a full time boring grown up. I’m an attorney, I have to be boring sometimes anyways; but at least these days motherhood does not equal mom jeans and PTA. I mean, I have options.
