Last night, as I gazed upon my kids from the doorway, I began to see what a great big brother Fritz was becoming. The two of them were laying on the floor and Fritz had his arm around his sister. He playfully tickled Lola saying her name in a sweet way that he’s begun to do, L-ooo-La. This morning he asked me to retrieve his camera so he could take a photo of her. He ended up very excited about the above photo of the two of them—faces smushed together. Then he went a step further and told me he would draw her. I told him maybe she was his muse, he said she was his buddy. Then he brought me this drawing:
We’ve reached a pivotal point in the family dynamic. We have two children who are beginning to enjoy each others company. It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for. When Lola is being a pest I simply tell her to skee-daddle and go play with her brother. She almost always obeys. When we walk down the street I put Fritz in charge of holding Lola’s hand, or we all link up like an unbreakable chain. Fritz is really stepping up his game and proving himself an excellent big brother. I’m proud.
