In Defense Of Crocs

crocs

What I am about to say can’t, and may never be used against me in a court of law…

It goes with out saying that Crocs should probably be given the most-unstylish-shoe-ever-invented award. They repulse me, old news…but Fritz, on the other hand, has been wearing them everyday since summer began. I know what you’re thinking, How could I let this happen? Well, BD purchased them on our trip to Florida in March. He went off on his own to get me and Fritz some flip-flops, I specifically said flip-flops and came back with Lightning McQueen Crocs for Fritz. I got flip-flops, thank gawd.

Here’s the thing, I hate to admit it, but they are kinda the perfect kid shoe. No ties, no velcro, Fritz can slip those bad boys on and we’re out the door. I can credit those shoes to at least an extra fifteen minutes a day. And of course Fritz really likes them cause they have Lightning McQueen on them.

In general, sandal selection for little boys is pretty bad. He won’t wear anything between his toes so there goes that. Everything else is pretty geeky looking. Also I’ve been too damn busy to get him anything else, including a pair of sneakers that fit. He’s out grown everything. So, every photo I take this summer has Fritz in Crocs. It’s upsetting but at the same time an extra fifteen minutes a day for a mom is like an hour in regular time, so I guess it’s kinda worth it. Although I say that very reluctantly.

But wait! It’s not too late people. Any suggestions on stylish little boys summer footwear? Help!

Picnicking! A Dining Out Alternative…

home-4

Going out to a restaurant for dinner is pretty much off the table for the moment. It’s stressful and expensive and really, it’s  just not worth the trouble. So after several nights of dining in I thought that making dinner and taking it to the park would give us all a nice change of pace. So I whipped up a yummy meal, packed up a picnic basket, grabbed a bottle of wine and we met BD after work at McCarren Park*.

We spread out a few blankets and set the ‘table’. Fritz was free to run about and Lola could roll around to her hearts content. I could yell at Fritz without worrying about other diners and we all enjoyed our meal in a different setting. It was stress free and cost 90% less than going out to dinner. I’m absolutely going to add picnic night to our weekly routine this summer. You should too!

*The only disappointment about our picnic tonight was that most of the grass in the park was totally brown. Brooklyn must be going through a drought or something. I haven’t been to McCarren in about three weeks, but last time I was there everything was lush and beautiful. It was a little sad to see our normally flourishing park with giant patches of dead grass. It hasn’t rained here in a while and it’s apparently reeking havoc on McCarren. Anyone else from NYC notice this?

Stolen Berry Salad

berries

Recently I had a berry salad at The Roebling Tea Room that I decided to recreate at home. I may have modified a few ingredients but it was just as delicious when I made it this morning.

1 Pkg Blueberries, 1Pkg Rasberries, 1Pkg Blackberries, 1 Pkg Strawberries…Mix all together in a large bowl.

Chop up about 10-12 dried  but moist dates…dump those in.

Chop 8 mint leaves…dump that in.

Sprinkle a Tbsp of sugar, or 2 and mix.

Eat alone or with yogurt. Yummy!

Loving It! Hawaiian Tropic Oil

20153f

As far as beauty products go my routine is simple. I usually just use some foundation, lipstick, blush, eye lash curl and a spritz of Creed: Fantasia de Fleur. Easy enough. It’s my clothes that I futz with all morning. But occasionally I’ll get into using some new thing for a while that will change up my beauty routine. It could be a new brow kit or shade of lipstick. At the moment I’m really into spraying myself down with Hawaiian Tropic Dark Tanning Oil. It’s cheap and makes every day feel like a day at the beach. It sort of has that 70’s vibe which I love. Throw a flower in my hair and I’m out the door.

This hoe just got turned into a housewife…

mom-and-me

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking since I went away and well I might as well just come straight out with it….I’m not going to be working on Missbehave anymore. Ouch. It hurts to say out loud. I haven’t issued a statement on the site yet but I thought that I would take baby steps and start here. It’s sad because Missbehave was my life for so long. It was once a great Magazine and with time could have become a really great website, but it seemed like each week my pregnancy sunk in, the more my head was somewhere else, like here, writing about funny stuff that happens at the playground or my toddler shopping addiction. I’ll admit it, my lifestyle is changing. I can hardly believe that I’m going to have 2 f*cking kids! It all happened so fast, and let me tell you, the idea of the second is a doozy. A toddler and an infant scares the sh*t outta me! It’s not that Missbehave won’t always be part of my lifestyle, but the fact is I’m ready to move on. My first piece of business is to be a, I can’t believe I’m about to say this…a s-s-s-tay at home m-m-m-om or a housewife or whatever you call it, for a little while anyway. Actually, I’m going to name my new position ‘Mom About Town’. That’s better! Read the rest of this entry »
